SIL (Supported Independent Living) pays for the support you receive at home, such as help with personal care, meals and daily tasks. SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) is NDIS funding for the home itself: specially designed housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Some people have one, some have both, and neither covers everyday living costs such as food and utilities.
In short
- SIL is about the people and support: help with daily tasks and building independence in a shared home.
- SDA is about the building: housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
The NDIA decides whether either is included in your plan. We also provide short-term and medium-term accommodation, for respite and emergency care. Call 1800 511 411 to talk about which option might suit you, or read more on our accommodation and housing page.
