Project Description
Home Modifications
At iConnect Life, we have an experienced team that can help you evolve your home to suit your lifestyle and cater to your daily living needs. Home modifications are changes to a participant’s home’s structure, layout, or fittings to safely access it and move around comfortably in areas they frequently use. Home modifications can include renovation to your bathroom, kitchen and modification to another place commonly used within the home. The goal is to make your home safer and more accessible.
Home Modification Services
To support your comfort and safety within the home, we have an experienced team that can assist you with::
Bathroom modifications are to provide ease of amenity use, as well as to maximise safety. Improvements might include installing assistive living fixtures and fittings such as grab (safety) rails, handheld showers/rails, transfer chairs, towel rails, shower benches, push-button door opening systems, automated lighting and over height toilet suites.
To support easy access and movement around your home, our team can assess, recommend, and support the installation of access ramps, anti-slip floor coatings, chair lifts or safety rails as required.
Kitchen modifications support greater independence in your kitchen and can include the adjustment of kitchen benchtop heights, installation of automated lighting, and the installation of accessible appliances.
If you have Assistive Technology in your plan, require assistive technology, or find everyday tasks difficult and think that assistive technology may help, we can support you in gaining access to necessary equipment and products.
Property Landscaping and Maintenance
In addition to our home modification services, we can take care of repairs and maintenance in and around the home. Our friendly team can help improve and clean the exterior of your home, offer gutter cleaning and landscaping services.
Am I eligible for this service?
Home modifications for seniors and people living with disabilities can reduce fall risk and help them safely use or access all areas within the home. We take a step-by-step approach to accessing the entire house and explain the specific changes required to make the home user friendly and safe for continued occupation. Home modifications under your NDIS plan are subject to strict criteria and must be approved before works commence. In general, these service supports are funded when the following conditions are met:
- Because of your disability, you cannot access and use some shared rooms and spaces in your residence.
- Your carers cannot reasonably access and use frequently used rooms and spaces in your primary residence.
- Your home has a significant impact on your daily living, the activities you partake in or the care you receive.
- A qualified Occupational Therapist has performed an assessment and recommended the modifications or equipment you require.
More information can be found on the NDIS website here (link – https://www.ndis.gov.au/participants/home-and-living/home-modifications-explained ).
How can I arrange this?
As with any building work, some laws and regulations must be adhered to when undertaking home modifications under the NDIS scheme. Depending on the scope and complexity of the proposed home modifications, you may also need to follow different processes for application. A suitably qualified Occupational Therapist will likely be required to perform an assessment and recommendation for your home. This assessment outlines the modifications, possible alternatives, or necessary equipment to support living independently in your home.
The NDIA has published a Complex Home Modification Guide for builders and assessors (PDF 690KB) to explain what information the NDIA needs to approve assessments and quotes for complex home modifications works.
